1.  Stop "Why me?", start "What's next?".

2.  Attend orientation at your outplacement center.

3.  Get training on how to write a resume (e.g., Monster).

4.  Write a resume and have it reviewed (e.g., outplacement center).

5.  Learn the job market lingo, for example, "CTC" is "Cost to company".

6.  Study the going pay rates for your target profession, but do not pay for the info.

7.  Protect your personal information during the process (e.g., email, cell #, SSN).

8.  Rely on personal networking - it is the best way to find a new job.

9.  Do you need textbook training for your target job?  Make a list of topics.

10.  Do you need a certification for your target job?  Find out ASAP and get it.

11.  Is a franchise right for you?  For an example, check out Geeks On Call.

12.  Are you the "welder" type?  (My daughter is!)  Consider retraining as a welder.

13.  Arrange to meet with a small group of job seekers on a [bi-]weekly basis.

14.  Like the time off?  Enjoy it!

15.  Keep a daily log to track and organize your search efforts.

16.  Need a cheap computer?  Check out Leo Leo International in Richardson nearby
     the old Collins/Alcatel campus.  Or, buy a used computer.
